Tanner has a well-deserved reputation as one of the best lawyers under the age of forty. In 2015, he was recognized by the National Trial Lawyers Association as one of the Top 40 under 40 and the Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce as a Young Achiever. In 2017, Tanner was further recognized as a Rising Star by the reputable Super Lawyers Magazine. Tanner earned these recognitions as a result of his success in the courtroom and the negotiating table. Tanner obtained his law degree from LSU where he made the Chancellor’s List and Moot Court Board.
Although a Houma native, Tanner began his legal career in New Orleans with the insurance defense firm, Taylor, Wellons, Politz, and Duhe. This foundation provided valuable experience on how to win against the insurance companies because he learned their strategies. From there, Tanner moved back to Houma where he developed his reputation as the top felony criminal defense attorney in Terrebonne. Despite working at the public defender’s office for just one year, he won two (2) criminal trials and obtained countless dismissals and reductions of charges. During this same time period, Tanner worked as a contract lawyer for Samanie and Stipelcovich when the firm obtained a 4.2 million dollar civil judgment from a jury trial. With this kind of experience, it is easy to understand why Tanner is considered one of the top litigators in Terrebonne Parish.
Tanner believes in serving the community. He’s involved in Le Petit Theatre, an active member of St. Francis De Sales, and an alumnus of Leadership Terrebonne. Currently, he serves Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes as the State Representative for District 53. Despite being a freshman legislator, he was appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives to the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority and by the Republican Delegation to the policy committee.
In addition to these accolades, Tanner is the current President-Elect of the Terrebonne Bar Association.
